Get Involved with International Safe Feed/Safe Food
Many firms in the feed industry have facilities in other countries, or they are involved in a substantial amount of international trade.
Because the American Feed Industry Association wishes to expand the Safe Feed/Safe Food Certification Program beyond the United States and Canada, the International Safe Feed/Safe Food Certification Program was launched. The International Safe Feed/Safe Food Certification Program is the result of an alliance between AFIA and the European Union Feed Additives and Premixtures Association, or FEFANA. The alliance was formed in January 2009, and it relates specifically to the expansion of the Safe Feed/Safe Food Certification Program to facilities in the EU and to EU-based firms with facilities in the U.S.
The International Safe Feed/Safe Food Certification Program was designed specifically to verify compliance with European Union Regulation (EC) 183/2005, Feed Hygiene. Under this regulation, the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points system, or HACCP, is the key cornerstone of compliance.
